Our parents, Our lessons

At a certain point we stop thinking our parent(s) are the smartest, fastest, strongest, people on earth.  This soon leads us to not admire them as much as we did before. Sometimes this happens w/out us even knowing it.  We began to look to other people for inspiration whether we still admire them or not.  I personally don’t think this is a terrible thing just disappointing.

Sometimes seeing qualities you do not want to possess or do not like in someone can help you improve who you want to be.  Most of us cannot always get the space we want from our parents at the times we want it.  Sometimes we are stuck dealing with things we think are completely ridiculous.  Our parents are part of our experiences and our experiences affect how we live our lives and the choices we make even. Our negative experiences are no different.

My point is sometimes you have to see how you don’t want to be whether for your own children or in your live today.  I know its sometimes really sad to think of our parents this way because like many other things we sometimes hope for this storybook image of how parents are supposed to be and although that may be reality for some of us it is not the reality for all of us definitely not all the time anyway.

We should take this as a positive thing and realize that although our parents have some great qualities one of their greatest qualities is that we are able to learn from their mistakes even the ones they don’t know they’re making.
