FML

So I was going to write a blog about how much I hate the phrase “F.M.L.” and everything it stands for, how I think it is overly dramatic and used way too loosely but then as I was thinking about it I thought maybe its supposed to be funny

I wanted to say ironic but I had an english teacher give a cute but informative rant about how there’s a difference between irony and things that are just funny.  Ever since then I’ve been super cautious about making that mistake so I won’t discuss irony on a public forum until I have time to go back and review the difference.

Anyway, I realized the types of things people say “F.M.L.” for: “F.M.L. I overslept.” “F.M.L. my BB is dying.” “F.M.L. I can’t find anything to wear to the party on Friday.”  It’s never things that are…I dunno….severe.  I’ve never heard anyone say “F.M.L. my bf/gf died.” or “F.M.L. my dad lost his job.”

So maybe “F.M.L.” is supposed to be funny in a “hey guys look at this sucky thing that happened to me today, even though my life overall isn’t that bad.”

The things you can over analyze at 5 in the morning.
